I was asked recently for a spell to determine if psychosomatic dreams were a blessing or a curse. In fact, I am often asked whether or not psychic power in its various forms -- dreams, visions and other abilities -- are meant to curse or bless those who experience the power. I thought I would share my simple answer: it depends on what you believe it to be.
Some people love dogs, others are frightened of dogs -- even if it is the same dog. The dog itself is neither a blessing nor a curse, it is just a dog -- the good or bad we assign it comes from ourselves, our attitudes, perceptions and experiences.
So is the ability to see into the future a blessing or a curse? If you believe it is a valuable tool, then it is a blessing. If you believe it is punishment, then it is a curse. It is possible to overcome your fear of dogs, and it is possible to overcome your belief that you are cursed, but you must learn to embrace (a little at a time) that which frightens you, and it must come from you. You cannot buy a magick potion to break the curse from someone, you cannot have the "hex" removed: it must come from a deeper connection with the Goddess, it will come from understanding that which scares you, even if the understanding is an uneasy one.
Some dogs will always be frightening, and some powers will always be frightening. But not every dog need cause fear, and not every experience of psychic power need cause fear. Grow into your power through meditation, consideration, and through connecting deeply with the Goddess.
For any who have this fear, my hope is that this brief posting acts as a road sign on your spiritual journey, and I hope it points you in a direction that will only benefit you.
